AC Goes Elsewhere

Whenever the AC team travels somewhere new for a shoot, the first order of business is always the same – find a local coffee source. For our GDN shoot in Greensboro, NC, that source was The Green Been Coffeehouse. It’s our favorite kind of place – a little worn around the edges, brimming with personality and an eclectic mix of people.

While in line there, we struck up a conversation with some fellow customers who told us they were artists-in-residence at “Elsewhere.” Seeing our blank expressions, they explained that Elsewhere is a collaborative art space in downtown Greensboro. Located inside an old thrift store that is packed with wares that are not for sale, it is an organization dedicated to “building a collaborative culture through the re-invention of old things.” This was something we needed to see. So we swung by for a quick visit on our way to the airport. We only had an hour, but we could have spent weeks combing through the contents of this incredible space. They call it a living museum, and it’s an apt description – full of visiting artists, hard at work breathing new life into old things.

The story behind this place is incredible. And we love their vision, which is rooted in a commitment to a stronger, more sustainable community:

Elsewhere’s collaborative approach investigates storytelling and play as a means for repurposing the resources or our past, exploring layered individual visions, and new possibilities for integrating creative practice in everyday life and society. Re-invigorating the South Elm neighborhood of downtown Greensboro through global and local exchanges, Elsewhere imagines our neighborhood as a place where available resources, at-hand beauty, and diverse citizens actively engage past, present, and future. As Elsewhere’s are everywhere in mind and matter–these ideas of sustainable transformation, wholistic inclusivity, and creative inquiry can be translated to sites across the globe.

Below are some iPhone pics that Ali & Jason took of the space. You can read more about this amazing project HERE. We hope you find it as inspiring as we did.
