Modern Quilter

by Ava Herceg, AC Producer

As antiquated as it may seem, there have been a string of highly successful quilt shows at museums around the country in recent years. Quilts have become a new source of inspiration for many contemporary crafters, fashion designers and fine artists. Beyond function or ornament, they are being recognized in the fine art world for their graphic qualities and storytelling capabilities.

Our latest SF Neighbor, Ben Venom, has embraced the tradition of applique quilt-making as a form of self-expression. A metal head from the Deep South, his precise, skillful needlework tells us stories of DIY punk ethos. Check out our newly-released profile of Ben, then go see his work up close Guerrero Gallery.
