Thinking UP New Ideas for a City

This past Saturday, the blonde half of AC journeyed out to the Urban Prototyping Exhibition to capture footage of the latest solutions for making cities more livable. The festival not only featured various physical prototypes, it also brought people together through dance, music, and art performances, as well as panels and discussions.

Located near the 5M site, the UP festival branched from Mission St. to Howard St., filling up the Mary, Minna, and Natoma St. alleys in between. Prototyping teams from the Open Call Selections and the Makeathon brought out their final prototypes for public display, and asked the public to test them out. We spoke to the prototypers and the public, asking them how a festival like this changed their idea of what a city can be, and which prototypes they think the city would be willing to put into use. Here are some their (and our) favorites, below.

Thomas Deckert, Glowing Crosswalk

George Zisiadis, Tyler Bushnell, John Matthews, and Ross Richards, Street Stage

Beau Trincia, Shared Cinema
